"Hey... hey. Detective, Look at me. Stay with me, look at me. You're safe. You’re in the office. We… are in the office."
"You called me at the middle of the night, that you finally cracked the Case. You said you had it all: the suspect, the how, the motive. But when I arrived… You were screaming again, Detective."
I saw the pattern again... It never ends... Why?
01. THE TOOLS
"I’ve cleared your desk. I’ll cross-reference our files and the ones from the precinct. Here is what you need."
- Journal, two pages: They’re blank right now, but not for long. I need to try my best.
- Pen or Pencil: I think, this will do.
- The Die (Even-sided): You feel so familiar… why?
- Me: I'm right here. I'm not leaving… for now
02. THE MIND
"Okay, take the pen. Don't think, just write. Tell me the story, all of it. What you remember… I need you to fill those two pages completely."
Mandatory Filings:
- The Suspects: At least 3 names. Who lied?
- The How: At least 5 Clues. Objects, smells, or anomalies.
- The Motive: Every suspect needs an alibi or a reason.
- The Noise: Fill every remaining gap with arrows, diagrams, and hunches.
The theft of the Sun... the man who never was... it’s all pouring out. Connect everything. Leave no white space.
03. THE REALITY
"Put the pen down. Breathe. Now we see what’s real. I’ll check the archives..."
My die is calling me… Every suspect, every clue. Roll. Why?
THE AUDIT (Roll 1d6)
ODD (Illusion):
"No... that never existed. It's a dead end."
Action: Strike it out. It is a lie.
EVEN (Memory):
"Yes. I see it too. The precinct has it as evidence."
Action: Circle it. This is your anchor.
04. THE TRUTH
"Look at what survived. Read me the case using only the circles. Is there someone left to take the fall?"
Outcome A: Case Closed.
"It holds together. You did it, Detective. Write the solution at the bottom. You can finally rest."
Outcome B: The Relapse.
"The evidence contradicts itself. Your head lied to you again. Tear the pages. Rip them up. We can't let these memories stay."
The headache is coming back… everything is wrong. I have to start over.
"Hey... hey, look at me. Don't panic, Detective. It’s just your head. I’ll make coffee. Here are two fresh sheets of paper. Let’s try again."
Forever is a long time, Detective… Don’t Forget To Remember.
SYSTEM PROTOCOL
The Ouroboros Cases is a solo journaling game of psychological horror and deduction.
- The Writing: Fill 2 physical pages with a mystery. Include 3 suspects and 5 clues. Fill all white space with "Noise."
- The Audit: Roll a d6 for every distinct Suspect, Clue, and Testimony.
- Odd: False Memory (Strike it out).
- Even: Truth (Circle it).
- The Logic Check: Read only the Circled items.
- Logic holds? Success.
- Logic fails? Relapse.
- The Loop: If you Relapse, destroy the pages. Start a new case.
Hard Mode: The Block
Failed names are "burned." You can never use them again in any future sessions.
The Denial
When you strike something out, write a margin note explaining why it was a lie.
